ERG Rowing Picture Reviews

As the winter weather continues to have SFU in a deep freeze, rowers are finding alternate ways to work out with the ergometer indoors and avoid the ice-laden waters.

The erg allows rowers to race against each other to see who truly is the fastest as they cannot blame currents, waves, wind, and flipping their boat as causes of their slow speeds. Recruiters also use these times to try and recruit new rowers to their schools.

The first Sunday of February was the National Indoor Rowing Championships, also known as Monster Erg, and they were held at the University of Victoria. This race is a two-kilometre sprint on these ergs and usually takes between six and eight minutes to finish, depending on the size of the rower. Last year, Jody Schuurman won a national women’s title and she is now rowing for the Canadian U-23 team.

SFU sent a number of rowers to compete this year and ended up doing very well. The novice men were the most impressive of the team. In the lightweight category were Robin Munshaw and Jesse Greiner who won second and third place, respectively. For the heavyweight, novice Michael Maloney came in third place, only four seconds behind first, beating out 14 UVic and UFV rowers in the competition.

Athletics Photos Reviews

Athletics is the biggest of the Olympic sports, and can lay claim to being the seed from which the Olympics oak tree grew.

Running events were a feature of the earliest of the ancient Olympics, and have been a constant in the Games ever since.

At their most basic, the four disciplines which make up athletics - track, field, road and combination events - involve running (or walking), throwing or jumping - or a combination of the three.

Many of the blue-ribbon events at any Olympics are on the athletics program, from the 100 metres sprint to the 1,500 metres and the decathlon.

Athletics represents sport at its most pure. Equipment plays only a minor role (except in the case of 400m runner and double amputee Oscar Pistorius) - the contest is won or lost according to the skill of the competitors alone.

Whoever is fastest will win the track events, whoever can throw or jump or hurl or leap the farthest will win the field events, and the best allround athlete will win the combination events - the decathlon and heptathlon.

Kristy McPherson Female Golf Player Photos

Golf is lucky to have Kristy McPherson. It was as a result of a diagnosis of Still’s Disease that she had to find an alternative sport to the softball and basketball that she so loved.

This 5’6” native of South Carolina has become a real force in the game and was just a shot away from opportunity to become the 2009 Kraft Nabisco Champion. She was pipped to that particular post by fellow Shaft Skinz user, Brittany Lincicome.

We feel sure there’ll be more to come from Kristy and are delighted she has opted to celebrate her success to date with a Champagne (pink) Shaft Skinz sleeve on her driver.
